Using colour to create classroom vibrancy.
Located in Flagstone, Queensland, Flagstone State School is a primary school that has recently undergone an extension. After constructing a new building within the school, Sebel had the pleasure of fitting out the classrooms. Sebel representative Tina Leko worked alongside Principal, Rosalind Clay, and Business Manager, Lynn Grima, to bring their vision to life.
With the growing population, the need for more and more schools is becoming apparent. Flagstone State School is one of many schools that are expanding their space to ensure more children are getting the best education possible for a brighter future.
As part of the project, Tina helped design grade four and grade five spaces as well as the staff kitchen area. In order to design the spaces, she had to first understand the requirements of the school and the colour schemes they were after.
The goal was to create a flexible and engaging learning environment through the use of furniture. This was done through incorporating both single and double tables in each classroom and bringing in some vibrancy with colour palettes that reflected the school colours.
Having tables with writeable surfaces and storage for each individual student was something that the school was hoping for. We were able to achieve that with Flagstone State School being the first Queensland school to have the new Twist’n’Lock table. Not only has a drawer been added to the original Twist’n’Lock table, but it now also has an easier adjustable leg system. The school loved these tables so much that they will now be rolling them out through the rest of the school.
