Celebrating the importance of staffroom spaces for educators.
In 2018, Berkley Normal Middle School in Hamilton, New Zealand approached Sebel with the aim of refreshing their staffroom. The outgoing principal at the time and the new principal both recognised the importance of a staffroom, and wanted to facilitate a space with multiple zones that allow for differing tasks.
The brief involved designing a space where staff could relax, work, and eat, while also allowing meetings of all sizes. A large central space was created using a combination of Sass Chairs and Cube Stool Ottomans.
Berkley Normal Middle School were bold in their decision to make this area a true focal point – using a combination of colours, patterns, and textures.
Around the central space was a desire to offer varying seating options depending on staff need. This was achieved using a variety of table shapes and heights, chairs, and stools, as well as furnishing a break-out space with our Jive soft furnishing range.
Furniture should be fit-for-purpose, comfortable, and inviting, while also being durable and flexible. The staffroom at Berkley Normal Middle School is a great example of a cohesive space that has stood the test of time.
