Serviceton South State School

Carefully selecting support furniture that supports student learning.

Serviceton South State School is a primary school located in Brisbane, Queensland. Recently, the school underwent an upgrade which included a new building to allow them to cater for more enrolments and provide students with spaces to support their learning.

When meeting with Principal, Marie Whitfield and Business Development Manager, Gaye Grandemange, Sebel’s Business Development Manager, Tina Leko was able to get a clear understanding of the project goal which was to have the extra classrooms cater to flexible learning spaces and ease of table size adjustments. The school wanted to offer a range of options when different aged students would use the classroom, ensuring students are using the correct sized furniture to support their learning.

The spaces that needed to be designed and fit out included three Grade 6 general learning areas, one Art Room, a Staff Office along with a Breakout Area. To provide Marie and Gaye with options for their spaces, Tina used Sebel’s Floor Planner app to design each space using the furniture and colour palettes which would best suit each space. Marie and Gaye were able to see the space and make changes before ultimately deciding on the final solution.

Using furniture to create engaging spaces is Sebel’s goal and for this project, a range of furniture was carefully selected to create these spaces to best support student learning. Height adjustable Twist’n’Lock Rectangle Tables were used in the general learning areas as a way to provide the solution the school required which allows tables to change heights based on the age of the students using them. They also selected mobile Tote Storage and a Teachers Station to provide more flexibility within the classrooms, as these products are designed for ease of movement.

The Art Room used writeable Pirouette Flip Tables and our new Ned Stools to continue the flexibility of the spaces and give the students the option of taking their Ned Stools to the outdoor area, enabling them to work outside.

Marie and Gaye wanted to have a cohesive look throughout the school which led them to their colour choices. They opted to have the same colours throughout the school, picking neutral colours to tie in with the environment.
